Description

The origins of Sharecropping in American history dates back to post Civil War era when former slaves sought jobs and landowners sought laborers. Sharecropping is a system where the landlord/planter allows a tenant to use the land in exchange for a share of the crop.

Sharecroppers seldom owned anything. Instead, they borrowed practically everything — not only the land and a house but also supplies, draft-animal, tools, equipment, and seeds.

Sharecroppers had no control over which crops were planted or how they were sold. After harvesting the crop, the landowner sold it and applied its income toward settling the sharecropper’s account. This shirt design suggest that ownership is the path to wealth generation. Why sharecrop for thousands when you can harvest millions.
